Course Overview

With the introduction of the Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) in April 2010 and the Renewable Heat Incentive (from 30th September  2011 for the non-domestic sector) interest in investing in one or more renewable energy technologies is at an all time high.

This one day course, which has been accredited by the Energy Institute, provides a great opportunity to learn more about these financial incentives and the renewable energy technologies they support.

This course is aimed at procurers, advisors, local authority staff, energy managers, those looking to change career into the renewable energy sector, potential investors and installers and householders who want an introduction to the main building integrated renewable energy technologies.

No previous knowledge or experience of renewable energy is assumed.

What you will learn

At the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the basics of how each renewable energy technology works
  • Calculate the likely income stream from the FIT and the RHI
  • Make a simple payback calculation for each technology
  • Select the most appropriate renewable energy technology for your home or organisation.

Generating Income from Renewables can be delivered in house on request.  It can also be tailored to suit the needs of your organisation.

Course Content

This course explain how you can generate an income from the FIT and the RHI.  It will also provide you with the information you need to select one or more of the following renewable energy technologies:-

  • Solar Water Heating
  • Wood Fuel Heating
  • Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps
  • Solar Photovoltaics
  • Small to Medium Scale Wind
  • Energy Policy and Planning
  • Economics

The main focus of this course is on small scale renewables below 50kW (sometimes called microgeneration) rather than large-scale infrastructure projects.  Many of the technologies can be integrated with energy efficiency into low-carbon buildings.

Prior to attending, you will be asked to calculate your organisation's (or home) existing energy use and carbon footprint.  The results will be used as part of a workshop on selecting the most appropriate renewable energy technology and payback.
