Course Overview

Employers and the self employed have a legal duty to assess the risks to the health and safety of all who may be affected by what they do in the workplace. Anyone who carries out the risk assessment must have the competence to undertake such assessments, i.e. the knowledge and skills.

This one day course ensures that anyone involved has the depth of understanding to carry out the risk assessment process.

At the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Appreciate the legal requirements for risk assessment
  • Understand the relationship between law, codes of practice and guidance
  • State the costs and benefits of implementing a risk assessment programme
  • State how risk assessment can link to the management issues of quality and training
  • Understand the concept of competence
  • State sources of further advice and information
  • Contribute to the risk assessment process in their workplace
  • Assist employers to meet their legal obligations and promote improved health and safety standards in their workplace
  • Carry out a self evaluation to identify areas where skills, technical knowledge and /or experience are lacking

Course Content

The risk assessment principles and practice course covers the following topics:-

  • Health and Safety Law
  • The cost of accidents
  • Principles of risk assessment
  • Risk assessment in practice

On completion of the course delegates will be required to complete an assignment based upon a real workplace situation. This must be submitted for marking within 14 days of completion of the course.

Course

Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment Principles and Practice.

This course will include an assessment. This will be externally moderated and a pass certificate will be issued by the CIEH to successful candidates.

An attendance certificate will be issued to any candidate who does not pass the assessment.

The Risk Assesment Principles and Practice Training Course is limited to a maximum of 10 delegates. Course costs cover the training session, a comprehensive set of course notes, lunch and refreshments.
