Course Overview

A three day course which serves to inform candidates of the acceptability criteria for standards in electronic assembly. This course is suitable for beginners, assemblers, stores personnel, QA/QC Inspectors,Test personnel and perhaps most important of all supervisory and managment staff. The contents of this course can also be tailored to the requirements and needs of each company and delivered on your site.

What you will learn

At the conclusion of the course delegates will be able to:-

• Assess Plated Through Hole (PTH) and Surface Mount (SMT) soldered components against IPC-A-610D Standards
• Recognise Soldering anomalies for PTH and SMT
• Recognise Target, Acceptable and Defect conditions of soldered joints
• Understand and recognise Process Indicators
• Recognise laminate conditions of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB’s)
• Understand the importance of cleanliness of PCB’s
• Install, Locate and Orientate components
• Recognise the importance of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Electrical Overstress (EOS) prevention

Course Content

The Soldering to IPC-A-610D Standards Course covers the following topics:-

• Handling of Components and PCB’s (ESD & EOS)
• Hand soldering of Terminal (Single and Multi stranded wire), PTH & SMT components
• Tinning of Wire and PTH Components
• Correct hand placement of PTH & SMT components
• Understanding the basics of Flux and Solder
• Correct selection of Solder Bits and Hand Tools
• Correct hand cropping of PTH Components
• Lead Forming of PTH Components
• Correct hand placement and soldering of SMT Components
• Self Assessment of own work to IPC-A-610D standard

At the end of each IPC training module a multi-choice question paper will be used to ensure the comprehension of all delegates. This modular testing system will lead towards a final overall score and result.

Upon successful completion of the course a certificate listing all modules that the delegates have been trained in will be issued by our Certified IPC Trainer. (CIT)
